How to Pick the Right Creepage Grade

Same YH5W-12, five different parameter sets. The difference is where you install it. Match your site conditions to the grade using the IEC 60815 pollution levels below.

🗼 Pole-Mounted Transformers

Mounted adjacent to distribution transformers on poles — first line of defence against lightning-induced overvoltages on 10–35 kV feeders.

🔌 Cable Riser Poles

At transitions from overhead to underground cable — protects cable terminations from travelling wave reflections.

🏘️ Overhead Distribution Lines

Installed at regular intervals along 10/35 kV distribution feeders in high-lightning-density areas to reduce line trip-outs.

⚡ Switchgear & RMU Protection

Compact polymer arresters inside ring main units and distribution switchgear panels.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the disconnector for?
A thermal disconnector (explosive bolt or ground lead disconnector) automatically isolates a failed arrester from the line — the line stays energised and the fault is visibly flagged for replacement. Recommended for overhead installations where outage is costly.
Polymer vs porcelain — which should I choose for distribution?
Polymer (silicone) is strongly recommended for distribution — it’s lighter (easier pole installation), hydrophobic (better in polluted/coastal areas), and safer on failure (no porcelain shattering). Porcelain is available if your specification requires it.
Can I get a specific voltage not in the table?
Yes — custom rated voltages between standard steps are available for OEM orders. Tell us your system’s nominal voltage and earthing type (effectively earthed / impedance earthed / isolated neutral) and we’ll calculate the correct Ur and MCOV.
What’s your minimum order quantity?
Standard models: flexible MOQ. We support small trial orders and samples so you can test before bulk. Contact us with your quantity and we’ll work something out.
