Overview
The BLQ-DL is a specialized variant in the BLQ arrester cover family — the “DL” suffix indicates an integrated down-lead port. Many surge arresters, particularly those with external ground-lead (down-lead) cables, have an exposed metal connection point where the ground cable attaches to the arrester base. Standard BLQ covers insulate only the arrester terminal; BLQ-DL extends the insulation coverage to include this cable connection point as well.
This extra coverage is especially important in wildlife-prone corridors and polluted environments, where the bare metal of the down-lead lug is just as likely to attract bird contact or accumulate conductive contamination as the arrester terminal itself. The integrated port sleeves the cable while sealing the lug — all in one molded silicone piece.
Molded from HTV silicone rubber with the same hydrophobic, UV-stable, anti-tracking and flame-retardant properties as the rest of the BLQ series. Slip-on installation, live-line compatible, and fully customizable to your arrester and cable dimensions.

What makes BLQ-DL different from BLQ-1?
BLQ-DL has an integrated port that covers the ground-lead (down-lead) cable connection lug, in addition to the arrester terminal. BLQ-1 covers only the arrester terminal. If your arresters have an external cable connected to the base terminal, BLQ-DL gives you complete insulation coverage.
What cable sizes does the DL port accommodate?
The port is custom-molded to your specific ground-lead cable diameter. Send us your cable OD (outer diameter) or the cable spec (e.g., 25 mm², 35 mm² copper) and we’ll dimension the port accordingly.
Can BLQ-DL be installed on an already-connected arrester?
Yes — the cover is slit or wrap-around design, allowing installation on an arrester with the down-lead already connected. No need to disconnect the cable. Confirm your configuration and we’ll advise the best opening style.
Is BLQ-DL available in the larger BLQ-2 body size?
Yes — we can combine the DL port with the larger BLQ-2 body dimensions for station-class arresters. Just specify both requirements: body diameter + down-lead cable size.
